This cache has been archived.

TechnoNut_Legacy: Lahee park has (IMHO) become a total NoGo area - it has become just too dangerous.
As a pre-emptive measure,. I am archiving my caches in that park.

Geocache Description:

This multi will take you along historic Kings Road in Pinetown and then to the final location close by.

Along the way you will visit the final resting place of some of Pinetown's early pioneers, have a brush with the Crimean War, pass by some open green spaces and perhaps experience Google Streetview.

Kings Road in Pinetown was named after the Kings Light Infantry who were stationed in the area in the late 19th century. Pinetown grew from a few scattered homesteads in the valley between what is now known as Kloof and Cowies Hill. It was established in 1850 around the Wayside Hotel, itself built the year before along the main wagon route between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. Pinetown was named after the governor of Natal, Sir Benjamin Pine. The British built a concentration camp here during the Second Boer War to house Boer women and children.

The initial location is a micro which contains the co-ordinates for a location 2 where you will need to gather information for the final cache location. On the way to location 2 you will pass a green area which has been taken over by cardboard collectors and fringe religious groups.

After location 2, a short drive (or a long-ish walk) required to obtain the last part of the final - this is near the western end of Kings Road. From there it is a short distance to the final location which (to protect from muggles) is a micro container.

Muggle activity at the initial and final co-ordinates can be a problem at certain times, so on occasion stealth must be exercised. This cache is best done in the early morning or late evening.

Questions to be answered at the 2nd location.

a. Which church was originally located on this property? St. ??????? Church. You need the alphabet position of the ROT13 translation of the 4th letter. This is K.

b. Which Kings Regiment was stationed in the area? You need the alphabet position of the third letter of the military corps. This is L.

c. What battle decoration did Joseph Malone earn? Take the alphabet position of the last letter of the decoration's abbreviation. This is M.

Location 3 is the last resting place of one of the ministers of the church above and can be found 17 meters away from location 2 on a true bearing of 036 degrees. You need to establish the date of his death and convert to a format of dd-mm-ccyy = AB-CD-EFGH.

Starting from location 3 you need to walk 26 meters on a true bearing of 332 degrees to find location 4. Here you need the date of death of Joseph Malone and convert to a format of dd-mm-ccyy = ST-UV-WXYZ.

Location 5 is located at 4 King's Road, Pinetown. Drive there, (or Use Google Streetview) noticing the green spaces to get the name of the complex at this address. You need the alphabet position of 5th letter of the complex name. This is PQ. Then, R = Q - P.

The final location can be determined as follows:
S29 4F.(M+B)A(V+W)
E30 5(L-K).S(K+B+P)Q

If needed, you can check your answers for this multi here.
