Geocache Description:

This cache is a bison tube placed about 3ft above ground level adjacent to a telegraph pole. Sorry, the remoteness of this cache means that it is not suitable for wheelchair cachers.

The cache is located near to the underground Royal Observer Corps bunker at Sedlescombe.

Despite this bunker being open, it is not possible to access it because I believe it is on private land and the deep entrance shaft (hence the skull icon) has been partially back-filled.

You can get an idea of what it would have looked like inside by watching the two short video clips that can be seen by searching for "TOCSIN BANG - The Cold War Story of the Royal Observer Corps" and "Sentinels of Britain - The Wartime Story of The Royal Observer Corps".

I was very pleased to see that two of my old Lewes Post colleagues, Denise and Philip, appear in the clips.

It is also possible to see a mock-up of a Royal Observer Corp Post at Newhaven Fort (near GC - Hope); pay to enter.

The display uses the old equipment from the Lewes Post. It even shows the original keys and locks that were used to secure the hatch down to the Monitoring Room.

It is believed that the area of bushes (at N50 56.342 E000 32.083) a short way from the cache is the site of the hard-standing for a WW2 heavy gun battery. There is still the remains of a concrete base in there.
