Geocache Description:

These falls are known as “Griffiths Falls” (also “Ferndale Falls” and “The Basin Falls”) and the creek is known as “Griffiths Creek”.
The more rain, and darker it is, the more adventure the access to the cache will be.
There’s a few crazy ways to get to GZ, but the most scenic route, and easiest to travel, with only some gymnastics required, is by parking downstream. Leeches have been seen in the area so take a bag of salt if that really worries you...

His Story
This area was part of the original Ferndale Property (184 acres ) owned by James Griffiths in 1888. He made many walking tracks through the property that included this waterfall in the route. He constructed a bridge across the creek and some seating down beside the falls. At one time there was a large kettle there enabling walkers to make a fire and boil water for tea (even though Griffiths was of “Griffiths Tea” fame - he apparently did not supply the tea).
The falls were once easily accessible from the “1 in 20” road (Mountain Highway) and a regular haunt for young lovers. In later years, most tracks have disappeared except for the one which follows the creek from The Ravine up to the Falls.
In the late 1960’s, The Basin Progress Association approached the local Council with a plan to improve access to the waterfall, but as of 2014 still has never been implemented.

My Story
Awegs (myself) and son Scotttiew first visited these falls around 1990, living close by. Some 20 years later, we returned on a birthday celebration for me, and Scotttiew, who got me into caching, placed this cache and dedicated it to me for all the interesting expeditions I took me on around Australia as a kid. 10 years later again, 2020, and Scotttiew living in Sydney, he transfered ownership to me (Awegs) for Father's Day while we were in Level 4 locdown for Coronavirus.

NOTE: GZ is not in a dangerous place, so no heroics climbing any risky cliffs! Your GPS may give you trouble in such a tight, tall treed valley, so you may have to call on some experience and lateral thinking - and most of all - USE THE HINT! If the find ultimately eludes you, count the blessing of being a witness of 'secret' falls which many locals don't even know exist.
I hope you enjoy this little secret of The Basin!
(Though, technically the falls are within Sassafras, if you look at the strange suburb boundaries)
