Nahe der alten Römersiedlung Vicus Dumnissus, das heutige Kirchberg, findet ihr auf einem abgelegen Pfad, den ehemaligen Galgenhügel. Bereits im frühen Mittelalter diente dieser Ort als Thingstätte, eine Volks- Gerichtsversammlung unter freiem Himmel nach germanischem Recht. Hier wurde für das Hohegericht Kirchberg Recht gesprochen. Hinrichtungen sind bis zum Einmarsch der Franzosen 1794 verbürgt.
So ist im katholischen Kirchenbuch von Kirchberg von der Hinrichtung einer 24 jährigen Frau die Rede. Sie wurde durch das Hohegericht wegen Kindsmordes zum Tod durch das Schwert verurteilt.
Dieses Greul aus alter Zeit, kann man sich Angesichts der schönen Aussicht über Kirchberg und das Umland, gar nicht mehr vorstellen. Eine kleine selbstgebaute Bank am Rande der Lichtung lädt zum verweilen ein. Dort kann man sich nochmal bewusst werden, wie schön es heute auf dem Lande ohne aktive Galgenhügel ist.
Setzt euch doch mal auf die Bank und zählt die Anzahl der Windräder. Schreibt die richtige Anzahl ins Logbuch und ihr bekommt dafür nochmal einen Gummipunkt. Aber Vorsicht, jeder Zipfel Windrad zählt… und für eine falsche Antwort werdet ihr selbstverständlich gehängt!

In the neighborhood of the old roman village vicus dumnissus, nowadays called Kirchberg, you will find on a secluded path, the former hill of gallows. This place was used as Thingstätte, a Germanic site of judgment and gathering, in Medieval Ages. Justice was administered by the high court of Kirchberg. Executions are consigned till the French conquering in 1793.
An execution of a 24-year-old woman is delivered in the book of the catholic church of Kirchberg. She was sentenced to death through the sword by the high court of Kirchberg for the killing of a child.
This cruelty is hardly imaginable in face of the beautiful view of Kirchberg and its hinterland. A self made bench on the edge of the clearing is put to give some rest. There you can imagine how kind life is in the country nowadays without active hills of gallows.
Take a seat on the bench and count the number of wind turbines in the landscape. Write the right number into the logbook and receive an imaginary extra point. Be cautious, every small tip of wind turbine counts… and you will be hanged for a wrong answer, of course.
