The OC #8: Fright Night Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

cat-jam: After reading the logs it was clear to me that something was wrong with the cache so I decided with the parking issues, it being too far away to maintain on a regular basis, and infrequent visits that it was time to say goodbye to this one. I was surprised how the tombstone, and hand and foot held up. Maybe Fright Night 2 will surface at an East Side county park near you next Halloween. Not sure where the fingers are, which seems to have been the problem. Two lost waypoints for anyone interested! I certainly wasn't going to find them in the snow.

As I walked up to the final I pictured bristoltrekker running like forrest gump miles beyond the cache. It put a smile on my face!

What evil lurks in the dark, on the trails of Black Creek Park...

The cache is not at the posted coordinates.

The essentials:

  • The coordinates take you to the beginning of a trail of fire tacks that lead you to the first waypoint. You are looking for a tree with multiple tacks on it. Once you find that, the first WP is within 10 feet.
  • There are a total of four waypoints and a final.
  • For some of the waypoints you may find a "helper" that indicates you are within 10 feet (or so, as I didn't have my tape measure with me) of the waypoint. I added some extra bling to the helpers for the final as for some reason the GPS became quite unreliable around the final when placing it.
  • Please take care with the waypoints. Also take care if you have a latex allergy.
  • The early part of the trail (primarily before the first fire tack) is a bit muddy. After that the trails are pretty dry.
  • There are some prickers, particularly around the first waypoint, but some scattered about on other areas of the trails.
  • See comments on parking below.

There will be 50 bonus points for cachers that do this cache at night and find all the wp's. This can be done with effort during the day but if you choose to do that, no bonus points.

According to the county website the park hours are as follows:

April 1st until October 31st, the park is open everyday from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m.

November 1st until March 31st, Monday through Thursday the park is open 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Friday through Sunday the park is open from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m.

Do what you are going to do, but after the 31st you should only go for this Friday through Sunday. No bonus points if you go when the park is off limits as I can't reward law breaking.

Remember each OC cache will give you the opportunity to learn about the location of the final bonus cache. It will be hidden somewhere in a non-obvious but findable way.

The cache is a medium sized lock & lock. Once you've located it, add your name to the log book and when you write your online log/note for the find please include the number beside your log entry. Please only one cacher per line in the log book. There will be a "lammy" for the FTF. The final is full of swag so Day 1 and 2 finders can feel free to take something without trading.

There will be 10 bonus points for the first 3 cachers to contact me with the answer to this question. What special significance does Agropoli, Italy have to the Rochester Area?

Good luck and stay safe.

Congrats to StrivingforCamelot, Team GeoGriffin, and the Mack4 for being the first to successfully answer the bonus question. Agropoli, Italy is the sister city of Chili, NY.

Congrats to TheGoonies2008 for being First to Find!!!
