Castle Bridge Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

fitzsimons: Following a DNF, I visited today and the area has been changed. No sign of the cache and not really anywhere else to put it sensibly in this area so time to archive. Thanks to all visitors.

Geocache Description:

The cache is not located at the above co-ordinates. The coordinates are for a Town Trail plaque on which you will find some interesting information to complete the cache.

The cache itself is a small, clear clip-lock box at N 52° 16.ABC W 001° 35.0DE. Please, when replacing the cache, do not place the container beyond the fence. We have the owners' agreement for it to be where it is but they are likely to withdraw this if it damages their property. Please note, the coordinates are not going to be particularly accurate due to overhanging trees and stone work. The clue should highlight the final location, though.

  • The bridge was opened in 1AB3
  • C is the number of words on the plaque minus 11.
  • D&E are the number of the plaque to the left + 7.

A bit about Castle Bridge

Castle Bridge is a single span sandstone bridge, 105 ft in length, over the River Avon. It was built around 1790 using stone from Rock Mills, in Emscote and is a Grade II listed building (since 10 January 1953). You can see the derelict remains of the bridge which it replaced, near the castle. If you wish, you can get the best view of it from Mill Gardens. From the bridge (not GZ) you have the classic view of Warwick Castle. The view was once described as "The finest view in all of England", and it's not far wrong. Morning is best for photos as the sun is behind you.

For those of you who collect Benchmarks, there is a Flush Bracket Benchmark (#526) located on the side of the bridge that faces towards the castle. The grid reference for it is SP 2877 6469. More information on the bench mark can be found here
