Geocache Description:

Killeter Forest - Kellys Bridge

The Department of Agriculture since the 1950’s has developed one of the largest forests in Northern Ireland on the western fringe of Strabane district.

This extensive area of conifers is known as Killeter Forest and covers approximately 32sq. km of the upper Derg Valley. For nature lovers the low hills to the west of Killeter and the bleak blanket bogland of Scraghy provide ample opportunities to spot a wide variety of birdlife including Grouse, Skylarks and Curlew in their natural habitat, and Greenland White Fronted Geese (Winter migrants).

These expanses of bogland also contain many specialised plants including Sphagnum Mosses, Bog Cotton, Bog Asphodel and the insectivorous Sundew.
