Nice hidden cache in places that nobody really goes to. It is
located near a small church built in 1885. Beautiful to walk around
the area, and enjoy the olive groves and vine yards, not much
around but nature. If you enjoy walking go for it, but you can
still go by car.
1885 cache is located not far from the village of Petrovo Selo
(Peter's Village), which is located in the Dubrovnik hinterland,
along the old gravel/tar road that New Mokošica leads to
Pobrežje, and sits on a hill top just above Mokošica
(old). Petrovo Selo is approximately about 5 km North-west the way
the grow flies from Dubrovnik old town. The cache has been place
alongside a stream that flows during winter but is dry during the
summer months unless rain has fallen. Above from where the cache
is, is the village church with the date 1885 above the door, hence
the cache name 1885. At current there are about 20 people living in
the village, and the village is a completely economically
underdeveloped suburb. Population to a lesser extent engaged in
farming and livestock and most of the population works in. Walking
around the area you will stroll past vineyards and olive grooves,
and perhaps a sheep or goat. If you do not have a car, you can use
the bus service to get to Mokošica (old). You would need to
catch bus 1A which cost 10 Kuna per a person and go all the way to
the end of the line (N42 40.432, E018 05.429) the bus will stop at
this position and get ready to return to the Old Town. From here it
is about a 3,5km walk up a gradient average of 7%. Suggest to take
water with and also the weather can change up in the mountains as
you are going from sea level to roughly 240 meters. Once you have
found the cache I would suggest not going back the same route but
continue on the road to New Mokošica. At the end of Petrovo
Selo village the road turns left and is a sand/gravel road all the
way to New Mokošica (blocks of flats), from there you can
wind your way down into Mokošica and find the nearest bus
stop which will be 1B. This bus joins the same route as 1A. This
route is about the same distance from the bottom of the mountain
(1A exit) to Petrovo Selo. It is possible to go by car all the way
to the cache. If coming from upriver you would need to turn right
into the road at (N42 40.432, E018 05.429), and if coming from down
river or under the bridge you would need to turn left into the
road. Once arriving in the general location it would be best to
park by the church as the road is narrow in the area and you might
cause a traffic jam for the sheeps and goats going home. It is
possible to continue the same way to New Mokošica as if
walking but I would not recommend it, if you have a low lying car
as sometimes the road can be damaged from rain, and you might
damage the underneath section. The cache is a small plastic box
about 20cm X 15cm X 6cm happy hunting.
