False Bay Scenic Walk: Holey
Cache!
The
cache is located at a lookout near the southern end of the False
Bay Scenic Walk, a super 7km trail in the Cape of Good Hope Nature
Reserve, which runs south from Smitswinkel Viewpoint to Booi se
Skerm along or behind a series of peaks overlooking the Bay.
It is a clear, well constructed and maintained trail with great
viewpoints throughout and although there are already several fine
caches along the way, I thought that another would be
appreciated!
Start at either end of the Walk and proceed to S34 17.973 E18
27.671.
Note: If you wish to do the entire Walk (highly recommended) and
avoid a return hike, you will need to leave a car at each
end.
Turn SE off the trail here and proceed a few meters straight to the
edge of the rocky lookout.
The cache, a small cylindrical camo-container, is hidden in a small
round hole in the rock a few metres over to your right in line with
the Vasco da Gama padrao (just west of Bordjiesrif) and about 1m
below the lookout level.
The trail would normally take about 3 hours to do at an easy steady
pace – but you will need extra time for:
a) finding and logging caches
b) stopping to admire the view & taking plenty of scenic
photos
c) whale-spotting in season (approx Sept-Nov)
d) having a nice picnic/rest stop at one of the many suitable spots
available
Enjoy!
