In September of 2009, North Georgia including the metro Atlanta area suffered mass flood damage. Stone Mountain Park also suffered some damage.
During the rain storms, water started to fill up Howell Lake, which is located on the South side of Stone Mountain Park just behind the children's playground area. Howell Lake Dam, which is an earth dam could not hold back the heavy rush of water. The spillway to the South of the dam could not handle all the water. The water then started to rise and flow over the earth dam causing some of the dam to wash away. The sudden surge of water spilled into upper Venable Lake, causing a rapid increase in water level. Between Upped Venable Lake and Lower Venable lake is a road that links the North side of the Park to the South. The bridge that held the road was an earth bridge with nothing but Three 36 inch pipes that let the water pass into the lower lake. These pipes could not handle the increase in water volume. The water eventually rose high enough to flow over the bridge washing away half of the roadway causing it to be shut down.
In August 2010, a new bridge has been built and opened to the public once again. This new bridge is located at the posted coordinates. I decided to place an easy multi cache in the area to celebrate the reopening of this roadway that allows for easier access to many other caches on the South side of the park. The cache container has been placed 2 weeks before I created the cache page hoping the container would show some aging before being found.

The final container is a little bigger than a 35mm canister and can hold a log and small items. BYOP to sign the log as there is no room in the container for one.
PLEASE COVER THE CACHE BACK UP JUST LIKE YOU FOUND IT SO THAT PASSING MUGGLES CANNOT SEE IT.
