Humbys Cache #1 - The Bridge - 12/27/01 This cache is on one of our
favorite hikes in the Santa Monica Mountains -- the view from the
cache is magnificant! The trail starts at Will Rogers State Park --
take the trail from Will's house to the Backbone Trail up to the
"bridge" which is about 1 mile (or a 25-30 minute hike) from Will
Rogers house. Elevation is 1,138 feet.
The cache is a 'solid' ammo box which is actually the 3rd cache
container since originally placed on 12/27/01. The elevation is
approximately 1,138 feet - BTW, we logged the cache with our new
eTrex Venture GPS which was a family Christmas present. Note, there
is a $3 charge to park in the lot -- but it is worth it. An
alternative way back to Will Rogers is to continue up the backbone
another 1/4 mile until you see a trail that leads to the right into
Rustic Canyon. You can visit the Rustic Palm Cache by MV-squared to
make this a 'double' cache trip! Round trip this way is about 4.5
miles. 12/30/2010 update - the parking charge is now $12, an
increase of 4x from 2001.
