Only by Hoof or Foot Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

elvishorse: I have multiple reasons to archive this cache. The main reason is my horse. He is getting old and not able to handle the full length of the lake trails to help me maintain this 6 part cache. I too am not in great shape (I love food too much). I created this multicache to combine my love for riding and geocaching, in hopes it would lure those like me but it seems most have completed the task by foot and not by hoof. This saddens me. This catch has been here for a good amount of time and I think it's time to say goodbye and free up this side of the park for others to hide new caches, and hopefully some big ones because micros in a forest is a was of an ammo can opportunity! If you do choose to place a cache on this side of the park, you will need to go through the DCNR and be very clear on your placement as there are endangered PLANT LIFE that cannot be disturbed.

I will be spending a few months taking my time retrieving all stages of this cache. If anybody has any questions, please feel free to send me a private message

Geocache Description:

BRING TWEEZERS!!! Reading the long description gives a ton of trail guiding tips to each cache. YES THERE IS A TON OF WALKING, that it is the point of this geocache. Get off the couch and get outside, enjoy the view of this park. On horseback, at a walk the entire time, it takes 4 hours from point A all the way back to point A, so hikers may take longer. Hints provided at each cache for each following cache. ENJOY!!!

THIS IS A 6 PART CACHE! BRING TWEEZERS!!! This cache is for my equestrian friends and fellow hikers. Please keep in mind that the park hours are 8am to dusk. When searching in Autumn and Winter, WEAR ORANGE and bells (make some noise) for some of the areas you shall travel are hunting grounds! DCNR approved. ~~ THIS WAS SET UP DURING THE SUMMER SO THEREFORE THERE WAS A LOT OF TREE COVER INTERFERENCE, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GIVE YOURSELF A GOOD BUFFER WHEN SEARCHING!!!~~ This may take a casual hiker 4 hours to accomplish completely. This cache is not meant for small children. This is a 5 mile hike from one end of the park to the dam, 10 miles if you are hiking or horseback riding back to your original parking spot. If you choose to horseback ride, please park at the Elephant Road parking lot at 40.428338, 75.252036. This is a 6 part cache and will take you +/- 4 hours to accomplish this depending on your horses pace and your searching capabilities. *If you are hiking, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you take 2 cars leaving one at the Dam parking lot at 40.469602, 75.189395 and then carpool over to the Elephant Road parking lot at 40.428338, 75.252036.* All caches are within 100 feet of marked trails so please use all trails as your guides. Some wading may be required at cache #2. Also use caution at cache #5 in the WINTER, it's on a steep slope. Thorn and ticks are all about! ABSOLUTELY NO BIKES! Please bring paper/pen to jot down additional hints given at each cache. Enjoy your geocaching adventure in this beautiful park! Here is additional information to jot down now if you'd like: Cache #1 is easily reached by taking the trail behind the large lone tree at the Elephant Road parking lot. Cache #2 is best reached if you cross over a widened path and go around a fallen tree where the trail appears to end. Cache #3 is quicker to find if you walk up the cabin driveway and take the trial on the left just before you meet the first cabin. It is marked with a white NOTICE sign. This trail will fork apart after you’ve passed all the cabins, take the trail to the right. Take the left path (see break in short brown fence) after you cross the Keller's Church parking lot. Once you come to a clearing, with the lake behind you, head up the driveway about 100 feet, there is a very hard to see path on your left, take that to find Cache #4. Cache #5 is on the Mink Trail. The Mink trail is marked but somewhat covered in the summer with vegetation and can be hard to spot. When you walk down Old Ridge Road, approaching the lake, there is a small parking area to your right, Mink Trail starts here. If you pass the gate, you've passed the spot I speak of. Cache #6 is in a dark area, at least it is in the summer. There are many trails that lead to it. I don't want to reveal too much info so it doesn't get muggled. Additional parking areas for those who feel this will take more than one day/trip are listed below. Have a safe a fun filled hike/ride in this wonderful park!
