A peach jar cache 'n dash along one of Somerset's many straight, flat (if bumpy) droves from which Glastonbury Tor can be seen.
The cache is located along a drove next to Sharpham Park Farm, where I have often seen a herd of deer. Some of the males have fairly large antlers.
As far back as 1250, Sharpham Park was a medieval deer park but it had become a very successful wheat farm by the 1800s, employing 20 men and 7 boys by 1844. This would have made it a very important farm and it was regarded as one of the best in Somerset. In 2004 the new owners decided to re-establish the deer park.
There is a interesting, old stone bridge at GZ. The day we placed the cache we saw a large bird of prey perched on the nearby fence.
You can park practically at GZ but the road is very narrow and lined with ditches so please park carefully and considerately. Watch out; the bank of the ditch is steep - don't fall in!
