Der Gellen
Dieser Earthcache führt Euch in den Süden der Insel Hiddensee,
direkt vor das Vogelschutzgebiet Gellen, ein Brut- und
Überwinterungsgebiet für viele Arten von Vögeln, das Teil der
Schutzzone I des Nationalparks Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft.
Jetzt aber zum Thema: der Gellen ist auch aus geologischer Sicht
sehr interessant. Es handelt sich um eine relativ junge
erdgeschichtliche Landbildung. Er entstand durch die Anlagerung von
abgetragenem und verlagertem Material der Dornbuschsteilküste im
Norden der Insel. Der Anlandungsbereich besteht aus Sandhaken und
Standwällen, die von Dünen oder Flugsanddecken überlagert werden.
Vor etwa 700 Jahren befand sich an der Stelle der Cachekoordinaten
die Südspitze Hiddensees. Man könnte fast sagen, die Insel würde
wandern, wenn die Abbruchgeschwindigkeit im Nord-Westen die gleiche
Geschwindigkeit hätte. Ein ähnliches Phänomen findet sich auch im
Nord-Osten der Insel am 'neuen Bessin'. Dieser wächst pro Jahr um
bis zu 30 Meter.
Um den Earthcache loggen zu können müsst Ihr folgende Fragen
richtig beantworten und mir die Antworten (OHNE Euer Bild) via
geocaching.com senden.
- Um wie viel Meter wächst der Gellen jählich?
- Welches sind die minimalen und maximalen Tiefen des
Flachwassergebietes?
Des Weiteren wäre es schön, wenn Ihr ein Bild von der Location
machen und Eurem Log anfügen könntet (am besten natürlich mit Euch
oder eurem GPS!).
Logs ohne Logfreigabe meinerseits werden kommentarlos
gelöscht.
Der Cache befindet sich in einem Naturschutzgebiet. Bitte achtet
dies, indem Ihr keinen Müll zurück lasst und auf den Wegen
bleibt!
The Gellen
This Earthcache leads you to southern part of island Hiddensee,
a place next to a well known brid sanctuary.
But here’s the important stuff: the Gellen is a highly
interesting in a geological mannor. What you see here is a pretty
young piece of new land – approximate 700 years old. But
where did it come from? The steep coast in the northern part of the
island is exposed to the forces of nature and porous rock is moved
by the Baltic Sea to the Gellen and forms new land. 700 years ago,
this location was the southern tip of Hiddensee. You could say the
island is 'moving', if the loss of meterial in the north-west would
have the same speed. A similar phenomenon can be found in the
north-east of the island on the 'neuen Bessin'. It grows about 30
meters per year.
To log this Earthcache , you ave to answer the following
questions and mail me the answers (WITHOUT your image) via
geocaching.com:
- How many meters goes the Gellen grow per year?
- Name both of the depths of the shallow water area!
Also I'd like you to take a picture of the location and include
it in your log (I’d love pictures including you, you and your
GPS or just your GPS). But of course it's obligatory.
