Short walk to Crummock Water through Lanthwaite Wood from car parks at Lanthwaite Green or Scales Hill.
Lanthwaite was the site of a Romano British settlement, the circular earthworks for which can still be seen to the east of the Lorton to Buttermere Road, at the Lanthwaite cattle grid.
Lanthwaite Wood has red squirrels, and there are buzzards in the area.
From the car park at Lanthwaite Green, walk up the road towards Lorton and take the footpath on the left, just beyond the farm.
From the car park at Scales Hill, take the footpath towards the lake from the back of the car park.
Cache is near the lake.
