"Uncle Lem's Rig"
My Great Uncle Lem Wright, of Gage Oklahoma, made this homemade water well drilling rig from old automotive parts. He used this rig from the early 1950's to the late 1970's to drill a large number of water wells in northwest Oklahoma. Uncle Lem had an irrigation business at one time and I helped him a lot. It was hard work but, Uncle Lem was fun to be around. I learned a lot from him. His nick name for me was, "Nuisance".
The "most famous" water well that Uncle Lem ever drilled, with this rig, was "inside" the Gage Locker, located on main street in Gage Oklahoma. The well was drilled by "punching thru the concrete floor and going down about 40 feet". Drilling this well even made the front page of the Gage newspaper! Can you imagine, a drilling rig inside a building?
Uncle Lem's Rig is located at the Shattuck Windmill Museum and Park located in Shattuck Oklahoma. After finding this cache, please spend some time and look at all the windmills and related equipment.
