Geocache Description:

This cache is located on the Laura Chauncey Trail, on Green Acres property at ETS. There are several access points to this trail and it is recommended that you enjoy the length of the trail if possible.

Parking is available for the Laura Chauncey Trail at several locations. Please use existing trails – check (visit link) for more information on the trail. A map can be found at (visit link)

This cache is a camouflaged Lock-n-Lock type of container loaded with a variety of swag – a large kingsnake, a bug box, silly putty, marbles, a book of Chinese Folk Poems, a Beverly Hillbillies DVD, and more. Log and pencil are included. The cache is located off the trail and near the Stony Brook. Though located near the brook, the cache is not likely to be affected by any floodwaters.

Enjoy your visit to the Laura Chauncey Trail. Much of the trail courses along the Stony Brook. Watch for wildflowers in the spring including spring beauties, wild leeks, and mayapples. This is an ideal spot for enjoying wildlife. Deer, raccoon and red fox tracks are not uncommon here. Great blue and green herons can be found along the Brook and belted kingfishers hunt for food here as well. Forest birds are also abundant all year. Watch the brook for a variety of fish including stocked trout, sunfish, and carp. Green frogs and bullfrogs can be found along the brook and Fowlers toads roam the forest in season. Snakes too can be found here including garter snakes and northern water snakes. Watch for access points to the Stony Brook which will allow a closer look at the streamlife and a chance to practice your stone skipping. Several spots are inviting to listen to the creek music.
