Molting
Trees have some amazing defence mechanisms against pathogens and predators. One way to stop vines from climbing up your bits and suffocating you "after a while" is to periodically drop your bark, and the vines, moss and other pretenders fall down with it.
At GZ you have an impressive example of this. This tree's bits are squeeky clean. No sign of moss or lichens on this baby.
Reception was patchy in the presence of this giant.
