Geocache Description:

Junee Railway Roundhouse & Museum
	Like many small towns across NSW, the location and development of Junee itself was dictated by the railways. NSW travelers knew they were approaching Junee by the smoky haze visible on the horizon as maintenance crews worked tirelessly on the steam trains from across the State in a depot located in the heart of town - the Roundhouse. The Junee Roundhouse began operating in 1947, attending to virtually every class of steam and diesel locomotive, rail car and XPT in NSW. The Roundhouse is the only example of a complete brick (full circle) roundhouse in NSW.. When built, the 100 foot turntable was the largest in the Southern Hemisphere and while it no longer retains that title, it still operates. Half the Roundhouse is still used for commercial reconditioning and the rebuilding of locomotives. The other half operates as a museum opened in 1994 by a group of volunteers with a vision of keeping the town's rail story alive. By providing guided tours, and group tours of the Roundhouse and the heritage items including locomotives, a 1940s accident crane and mail car, volunteers take visitors on a journey back in time. The Cache and the Museum are available 7 days a week. 12:00pm - 4:30pm Monday - Friday 9:30am - 4:30pm Saturday - Sunday Closed Christmas Day and Good Friday The cache is a micro, and is well hidden. You will need to bring a writing implement. Please return the cache exactly as found.
