FOX BOX Traditional Cache
scramping: This one seems to get washed away too regularly. Concerns for adding to environmental rubbish is sadly helping me make the decision to archive this one .

Located in the historic fishing port /village of Robe
The South East of SA is a high rainfall area which is without natural drainage in the form of rivers or streams, consequently, large swamps develop behind a series of low, sandy ranges which run parallel to the coastline.
For better or worse, many drains to the sea were constructed from 1862 thro until 1969 to allow ‘development’ of the fertile farmland behind these ranges.
In 1915 a cut was made thru the cliffs at the ‘Outlet’ to allow Drain L to connect to the sea via a series of small existing lakes.
Lake Fox and the other lakes are now semi-saline lakes influenced by tidal movement and seasonal freshwater intake.
The lakes and channels are now an important landmark in Robe and are well utilised for recreational purposes. Dense thickets of Paperbark and T-tree abound and these provide an important wildlife habitat.
An appreciation of the immensity of the drainage works in the region can be gained by visiting other Caches in this area.
