Singer-songwriter Dan Fogelberg was born in Peoria and attended high school in Peoria. He became famous in the '70s and '80s with easy rock hits like "Leader of the Band" and "Same Old Lang Syne." He died from cancer in 2007 at the age of 56.
In 2010, donations from fans lead to a memorial in his home town.
The three large stones of the memorial over look the Illinois River in Riverfront Park. To get there, park in the lot nearby or follow the riverwalk from various access points along the river. Smaller rock markers along the walkway have Fogelberg lyrics.
