Geocache Description:

In this cache is part cords for the GBNF bonus Seaton Tramway

Colyford

This was the smallest station on the Seaton branch, opened in March 1868, Colyford served the village immediately to the west over the River Axe. The platform, on the west side of the single line, was immediately to the south of a level crossing carrying the main Lyme Regis to Exeter road. A crossing keeper’s cottage, built in 1867 at a cost of £625, stood by the level crossing at the north end of the platform. It included the station booking office. The cottage was later demolished and replaced by a concrete shelter. Also in the centre of the platform was a wooden waiting shelter, with a small chimney, that following the demolition of the crossing cottage, also became the booking office.
In 1928 4,968 passengers tickets were issued and 4,271 collected; figures for 1936 about halved to 2,385 and 2,414.
By 1959 the wooden shelter/booking office had gone but the concrete shelter survived. The station closed with the withdrawal of passenger services on the branch in March 1966.
