THIS MAINTENANCE - BUT - If you find the historical marker do please log the cache as the marker is the reason for the cache - Camp Stevens Memorial. Coords within 16 feet. There is no longer a set of bushes behind the cache. It has been moved significantly closer to the marker.
Thanks AHS for keeping this a great monument! During the American Civil War an army camp, Camp Stevens, was established here; that camp later became known as Camp Devens, and eventually as Fort Devens. The presence of thousands of military and civilian personnel on the base shifted Ayer's commercial development towards meeting their needs until Fort Devens was closed in 1994. Cache originally includes travel bug, log book, pencil, pen, and some little green army men, etc. SPOILER: Sorry, but people keep leaving it out. PLEASE leave -- !HIDDEN! -- UNDER the evergreens behind the monument, do NOT leave directly on grass near or behind monument. Per agreement with landowner, cache must be IN/UNDER the bushes behind the monument, within 20 feet. Please make sure the cache box is sealed tight on all sides before returning it to the bushes.
