Geocache Description:

Viticulture in this region was created in the 16th century during the Turkish expansion. That time the Premonstratensian monks from Leles owned around Kralovsky Chlmec extensive vineyards and were looking for a suitable location for the cellars. So the first cellars started to form at Maly Hores. The largest bloom was at the end of the 16th and early 17th century and they still growed up to the 19th century. Interestingly, in Maly Hores are only the cellars, all growers have a vineyard on the western slope of the Kralovsky Chlmec. In contrast to the Tokay cellars which are large, these still remain tiny. The original cellars on the east side of the complex were digged into the tuff and for the portals was used andesite. The western side followed up later by using wooden structures and concrete. The typical trees of the whole complex are the acacias which give the place a colorful atmosphere. The cellars are a famous place for a social life, even an amphitheater can be found here. Interestingly, the cellars are inherited from generation to generation. If there are more heirs, from the original entrance new branches are built. So there are maybe just 80 portals but cellars around 400. Some entrances are just entering into one but some of them up to 13 other cellars.

Najvacsi rozkvet zaznamenali koncom 16. a zaciatkom 17. storocia a neustale ich pribudalo az do 19. storocia. Z niektorych vchodov sa vchadza len do jedinej, z ineho az do 13 pivnic.
