Geocache Description:

This cache is located in a central area of Panthertown, near Lake Toxaway, NC, about equal distance from the West or East entrance on a typical small trail made by Carlton. I wanted to place it near a small stream you cross, but coords were too close to another cache.

I have moved the cache from the top falls on Greenland creek, as the developers have closed the road that once brought you within walking distance of ½ mile to cache. The falls were named after him, with a sign still there. For an adventure for the hearty, take the small trail(staying always on the left side going up) all the way to the top of Greenland Creek, seeing multi sets of falls.
This cache is dedicated to a very unselfish, giving man who died about a year ago whose whole life was Panthertown. He made many miles of new trails and maintained the entire maze of trails, always in harmony with nature. He made you walk around the Rodo’s and small trees, normally just wide enough for one person. He hiked 10-12 miles a day with his two faithful companions, Cheyenne and Duke, I think, (his dogs) maintaining the whole valley. All that was necessary for a special hike to new falls or flowers was just a phone call away.
This is an ammo box with just a log, pin and photo album for 4x6 pictures. Please if you have pictures of Carlton, place them in the ammo box in the album or your own Ziploc plastic sealer for all to enjoy. Maybe a short story of some of the times you may have hiked with Carlton would be fun to share. I started it with a couple of pictures of myself and friend with Carlton about 1996. This is a completely new location, so those who found before should be able to sign the log again. Note:You will have to look closely for the trail to enter the woods, off the main valley trail, or Dukes service road would be closer if coming from the West entrance. In the spring, you need to walk this whole trail for the trilliums. Those of you who found The Carlton McNeil Tribute, will be able to sign this one and get credit.
