Hook a duck Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

schnuz: I've been down and removed the cache and all it's components. The box was broken, probably stamped on so yet again it's been a deliberate act to destroy the cache. That was it's final incarnation I'm afraid to say as it's got too expensive to keep replacing it.

Thanks to every one who took the time to go and find it and share their caching experiences with us. Thanks as well to all those who added favourite points as well, forty four points at fifty seven percent at the end. Sad to see it go and I'll keep a look out for a new spot for it.

Cheers.

Schnuz.

Geocache Description:

Original concept by Oreo-Cookies, design and innovation by Schnuz.

Feel free to post long logs, not only are they welcome they are much appreciated

PLEASE READ: operating instructions; Find the specialist equipment, find the ring and release it, it will float and the cache will then be accessible see the hint for further details.
If you break it please report it for the enjoyment of others, I really don't mind but would like to arrive prepared.

This cache is set just off the new Goit footpath at an altitude of 540 feet. The path is is fairly flat and a combination of gravel (which can flood slightly after heavy rain) and raised board-walk sections. The route to the cache is fairly well defined but can be muddy.

Specialist equipment may well be required for this cache and is provided at the published coordinates, look behind the cracked branch under bark in hollow trunk, be careful when replacing try not to let it slip down the trunk. When you find it, work out what you need to do. This is definately a catch and release sport, don't try to haul one in for the dinner table.
Title inspired by a common place fairground attraction.

At this point the Goit can't be seen as it has been covered for the last hundred years from Norcross Brow (Abbey Village side) to the end of Lodge Bank. The footpath runs from Railway road in Brinscall to the start of the Goitway Bridlepath where the Goit emerges from it's hidden depths. It is the objective of the GREAT project (Goit River Environment Action Team) to eventually have the Goit uncovered. It was originally covered in 1907 to prevent pollution from the local industries, especially the quarry, from entering the watercourse. The Goit is a man made stream (technically a canal) that links the Roddlesworth and Anglezarke reservoirs and is a source of drinking water. At this point it is only a footpath so there is no access to equestrian traffic, which means no future tomato crops. Be aware however that there is still some cycle traffic and a small minority of inconsiderate dog walkers.
