Island at Lower Holmes Falls Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

eremite: Not seeing much action, and I'm not up to keeping it up. So, away it goes...

Still a great place, though. Visit if you're in the neighborhood.

Geocache Description:

There's a great little island in the midst of Lower Holmes Falls... if you can get to it.

Difficulty here will depend on the water level.

Spring can be pretty ugly with lots of fast, high-running white water. You may risk some serious bodily injury getting onto the small island. Use discretion and remember, he who walks away lives to cache another day.

Late in a dry summer or fall with low running water and you won't even have to get your feet wet.

I haven't been out here in the winter, so I've no idea how the water runs in the cold. If someone hits this cache with snow on the ground and ice in the waters, let us all know how it looks.

It was suggested I offer a better idea on how to actually get to the cache. A good suggestion.

Just South of the bridge, East side of the road there is a trailhead that will lead you along the bank of the river and to the island. No bushwhacking required, although you may get your feet a bit muddy and have to duck and push aside a branch or two. Other than that, it's a very easy walk. Of course, once you step foot on the island you'll have to do some bushwhacking to get to the cache.

Gluttons for punishment will enjoy bushwhacking along the East (N.) bank.
