Geocache Description:

This was our first cache hiding ... once higher rating .. then lowered .. now again lifted the rating to 2.5 and modified the description a little. Thanks! BUT ... BEWARE ... if it has been raining recently, you may want to read the experiences below!! location is a short walk from old mount baldy road.

Well, after much encouragement :-) I lifted the rating a star because of some elements such as poison oak, mud and probably some snakes this time of year (july). Great to see this is fun for folks! The landscape here is a great collection of native plants ... watch out for the poison oak! See if you can identify your plants ... look for the manazanita, laurel, Calif Live Oaks, Sycamores and Yucca. The location of the coordinates is NOT at the cache because the cliff obstructs a good GPS reading even with our 15,000 dollar Trimble Unit ...

The coordinates locate you at a leaning Alder tree (Hint .. do alders like water?). The leaning alder tree is POINTING AWAY (about 20 feet) from the location of the cache.

Look up ... :-) you'll see a car in the tree off to the side! The cache is in a plastic box 6" by 6" by 20" with a blue top and clear sides.
contents includes :

  • a nice CASIO calculator (it works and lots a buttons)
  • a key holder
  • a Border Patrol Beer Holder ("A Career with No Boundaries")
  • ESRI ARCGIS software 6 month trail (the latest version!! ... only take this if you are serious about Geographic Information Systems ... take a class in GIS!! ... we placed in the cache schedules of a nearby college that offers GIS/GPS classes)
  • a small broken star xmas ornament
  • a xmas ornament joy to world
  • wildflower mixes (in zip lock back)
  • GIS (Geographic Information Systems) pins
  • GIS class schedule for Rio Hondo College and newsletters
  • a new GIS ESRI no-spill Mug
  • wrapped candy cane
