Dunakapu Square
Eng.: The name of the square was given the name of the olden towngate opening to Danube. An memorial tablet on the facade of the house at 8 Jedlik Ányos Street indicates the place of the former gate.
On the placce of the former Danube bastion, in 1998 the city raised the Pálffy and Schwarzenberg general's sculpture to 400 years anniversary of reoccupying Győr from Turkishs. The creator of the composition is Tokaji Veres Gyula Alpár.
An weathervane emerges from the wrought-iron frame of the round drinking-fountain, under it with a Latin cross and a crescent.The story about the iron rooster is the best known one in Győr. The iron rooster is presently in the city museum. According to the tale Grand-Vezir Sinan who led the troops conquering Győr prophesied that as long as the rooster would not call, Győr would remain under Turkish rule. During the night of the victorious siege the rooster did call, its voice, however, was lent him by a brave Hungarian soldier.
Hun.: A tér nevét a hajdani, Duna felé nyíló városkapuról kapta. A Jedlik Ányos utca 8. sz. alatti bérház folyó felé néző homlokzatán emléktábla jelzi a régvolt kapu helyét.
Az egykori Duna-bástya helyén, Győr törököktől való visszafoglalásának 400 éves évfordulójára emeltette a város a Győrt felszabadító Pálffy és Schwarzenberg tábornok szobrát 1998-ban. A kompozíció alkotója a tokaji szobrászművész Veres Gyula Alpár.
A kerek ivókút kovácsoltvas vázából egy szélirányt jelző vaskakas emelkedik ki, alatta latin kereszttel és egy félholddal. A hozzá fűződő legenda Győr leghíresebb legendája. Az eredeti vaskakast a győri múzeumban őrzik. A monda szerint Szinán nagyvezér, aki a várat elfoglaló győri csapatokat vezette, megjövendölte, hogy míg e kakas meg nem szólal, Győr török kézen marad. A győztes ostrom éjszakáján aztán a vaskakas valóban kukorékolni kezdett - hangját azonban a monda szerint valamelyik bátor magyar vitéz kölcsönözte neki.
