nice hike along an old railroadbed
An easy hike along the old Syracuse and Chenango Valley railroad bed. the property is now owned by Eastern Hills Bible Church and the parking area with kiosk is owned by Jack Voss.Jack placed the kiosk here with a bit of history. the concrete pad to the right is the remains of the railroad flag that you can see in the pictures at the parking area . Jack says go ahead and park on the grass the spot is as hard as rock. The old rail bed here is used for nature hikes and don't be surprised to see the national girls cross country team (3 years in a row) from the Fayetteville Manlius high running by.
Jack has the bell from the old Herb Cohen hardware store now hanging in his front yard. The long gone store is now the site of a pizza shop back on Seneca st. in Manlius. If he is around while you make your visit he is more than happy to let you ring the bell. I did when I made my trip to the new nature trail here. Jack is the former owner of a sign shop in the village of Manlius and the new signs along the trail were made by them.
