This cache has been archived.

Southerntrekker: As the owner has not responded to my previous log requesting that they check this cache I am archiving it.

If you wish to replace this cache a new listing will now need to be created. Caches are not unarchived due to a lack of maintenance. Please do not e-mail me.

Geocache Description:

This is the second in a series of five caches that makes up ‘The Nostalgia Trail’ multi-cache. Each cache is hidden in a 35mm film container around the perimeter/exterior of a castle and in public areas, so please be aware of ‘Muggles’! Cache containers are clearly labeled with the ‘Monster Boo!’ logo and numbered. Caches may be done individually as ‘Traditional’ caches, but if all five are located and the code deciphered then the coordinates for a 6th ‘bonus’ cache will be revealed!

There should be a theme for all caches, particularly multi caches and ours is simple! When we were ‘wee’ and living on the Wirral in the 1970s, my parents would bundle their five offspring into the back of our Mini (yes, you read that correctly… seven of us in a Leyland Mini!!) and head off to a North Welsh castle with a picnic in the boot!

I shall explain, in brief, the ‘nostalgic’ significance of each castle below the list of castles in each cache descriptor.

There are five castles which make up ‘the Nostalgia Trail’. All are hidden within view of the respective fortress and because of the nature of the hides, ‘barriers’ are the main feature! The castles begin from north and cascade further south. They are in the following order:

#1 Flint
#2 Rhuddlan
#3 Denbigh
#4 Dolbadarn
#5 Beaumaris

Note down the letter under the cap of each 35mm canister lid. When you have discovered all five caches, use the Geocaching.com decoder and try to decipher the name of an ancient/mythological Celtic warrior/chieftain with these letters. Next you must substitute each letter for its corresponding number from the table below and place each in the gaps, in order of original spelling, to complete the ‘bonus’ location’s missing coordinates. A clue for the location of the 'Bonus Cache' is...

"You'd NEVER expect to see a tent peg up there!"…

Exercise caution, as there may be ‘Muggles everywhere’!!

A= 8 G= 4 N= 3
B= 7 H= 7 O= 8
C= 6 I= 3 P= 2
D= 5 J= 9 R= 4
E= 1 L= 6 S= 7
F= 6 M= 1 U= 2

Bonus Cache coordinates: N 53° 0_.3_ _ W 04° 1_.64_

My earliest recollections of Rhuddlan Castle were of the two man towers at the main entrance to the fortress and also of looking from the road across the watery foreground towards the ramparts! My brother & I could happily spend hours here climbing where we shouldn’t (I guess that’s kids of any generation for ya, right!?). The cache is hidden and obscured by a more contemporary construction. As ever, stealth is required although this is a quieter location than the others! Although caution should be taken as you are by a roadside! Please take care to replace the Micro when logged! ;~)
