This is part of the Phase II of the Legacy Trail. You can access the trail from the Truckee River Regional Park near town, or from the Truckee River View Sports Park off Joerger Drive. This cache can be accessed from the paved Legacy Trail or from the dirt trail that runs next to the river.
The Truckee River Legacy Trail is a gift to the community, both present and future. The Legacy Trail starts near the entrance to the Truckee River Regional Park and extends eastward along the Truckee River for almost three miles. It can be enjoyed by hikers, bikers, walkers, kids, and dogs-on-leashes (and please remember the poop bag!) The trail starts as a paved curve around the first few tees of the disk golf course down towards the river. From the river barbeque area, the terrain is fairly flat for the remainder of the current trail.
The goal of this cache is to introduce you to a very pleasant hike or bike ride along the Truckee River. The hope is that you will take time for a quick wade in the river, maybe sneak in a picnic lunch, and perhaps view some of the local wildlife. From near this cache, there is a second smaller dirt trail preferred by the local labradors and their people which runs right along the edge of the river. Couple of good wading spots!
Your final destination is sandwich sized lock-n-lock. PLEASE replace the cache and rehide as you found it...leave no smelly treasures, please! Have a GREAT visit to the Legacy Trail!
