Geocache Description:

Noreuil Park Foreshore
Albury's Noreuil Park on the banks of the Murray River is one of the city's most popular destinations.
Have revisited cache and replaced container 30/102010. Please replace as found and use a high level of slyness with the on comming summer season.Dawn may be the best time to tackle it now.

Families love to picnic under the canopies of the magnificent Plane Trees, paddlers of all ages take to the river for competition or recreation, friends love to sip coffee at the River Deck café and children can play and swim at the beach.
Soldiers of the Albury Battery, part of the 5th Brigade, helped capture Noreuil from the German Army on April 2 and 3, 1917.
They were among an AIF force that approached the Hindenburg Line fighting over a landscape battered by bombardment and trench warfare and soaked by blood from both sides.
In 1919, Albury mayor Alf Waugh convinced council to name a new riverside park and swimming area after Noreuil as a tribute to the soldiers’ actions.
“Noreuil was the place where the battery covered themselves with imperishable glory,’’ he said at the time.
With some 800 or so members belonging to the Mitta Mitta Canoe Club over 30 years, for most a membership has been a valuable experience learning boat skills and gaining fitness. Whether it be the fun and excitement of a white water adventure or the gruelling slog of a marathon session the rewards are plenty; namely the appreciation of outdoor life on the river and the camaraderie with other club members.

In 2004 the club welcomed another decade of canoeing with a brand new clubhouse able to accommodate 130 boats; these clubrooms proudly sit right on the bank of our river.
