Geocache Description:

Captain Nicolas Baudin lost midshipman Timothy Vasse overboard late one day in 1801 not far from here. Baudin searched in vain for his crewman and continued on his voyage without finding him.
To honour Vasse, the captain named a river close to here after him.
Local history has it that Vasse was found by the local Wardandi people an continued living with them in their tribal way of life for many years.
It is believed that he died from homesickness and a broken heart.
So, every time you see a place, winery, product or company bearing the name Vasse, you now know where it originated.
