The Timekeeper (Nelson/Marlborough) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

niteowlnz: It makes me sad to have to archive this cache due to the fence being removed due to the new roundabout placed at this intersection - it had managed to exist for 11 years and was one of my favourite placements - thanks to all those cachers that logged it and gave it their favourite points - Happy caching

Geocache Description:

This landmark in Motueka seemed to deem itself as a necessary cache spot.

The "Rothmans Clocktower" as it seems to be known as locally was actually built by Gerhad Husheer the owner of the Tobacco Factory that occupied the land - it was erected in 1950 and is believed to be one of the last illuminating clocks of its type to be built in New Zealand.

Gerhard Husheer then sold the buildings and land to the Rothmans Tobacco Company. They put their Rothmans sign on it and thats how it became the Rothmans Clock Tower.

The tower is made of concrete and is 11 metres tall. It is now qwned and cared for by the Clock Tower TrustThe cache by neccesity is small - only room for log and pen.

This is a high muggle area and those with small children should be aware this is a busy (by Motueka standards) corner on a main road so please keep an eye on them.

Just a note the cache IS NOT on the clocktower itself
