How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

This is a great newbie cache - read the description, walk the trail and find the cache. Really! Take kids and let them use their geo-senses. When you get 30m away, ask them to keep their eyes peeled for a good hiding spot. We assure you they will find it. This is a classic good ol' geocache filled with inexpensive but fun swag. If you're a kid we really don't mind if you trade a McToy for something really cool ;-) - go ahead, rummage and root around like a real Pirate looking for treasure!

The posted coordinates are the location where you will find the cache because it is a 'Traditional' cache. This easy 'regular' cache is alongside a trail in a CRD Park called Lone Tree Hill. The coordinates were taken with a handheld GPS and 5 waypoints were averaged at least 30 times each. This means you will stand a very good chance of sitting your GPS on the cache site and it reading close to 'zero'.

CRD's relationship with geocaching and vice versa:
The CRD likes geocaching because it brings new people to their parks and also because it invites people to explore parts of their parks that may not otherwise get much attention.

As geocachers we are ordinary CRD park visitors, so when we're hiding or hunting caches in CRD Parks the same general park rules apply, except we're allowed to leave/find a container.

Rule #1 - Stay on the Trails: This cache is accessible from a trail without having to step one foot off!

Rule #2 - Parks is Open Dawn to Dusk: Please only walk these trails and hunt for this cache during the hours this park is open.

Pirates of the Yukon:
We met the Pirates of the Yukon at an event in Sequim, WA this past spring and they graciously gave us this door prize cache that they won, because they were heading off travelling and wouldn't be able to hide it for a while. We added some bits and pieces to give it a personal touch of course but named it after them. Who wouldn't with a cool caching name like that!
