Geocache Description:

Small lock and lock under a rock up in the meadows.
It has some small useful items for camping.

NB. PLEASE USE THE NEW *MUD FREE* TRAIL ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE CREEK AS DESCRIBED TO AVOID FURTHER DAMAGING THE FRAGILE WETLANDS ON THE EAST SIDE.

I hope you enjoy this hike into Tricouni meadows. The best time to go into this area is in the late summer when the alpine wild flowers are in bloom. Be prepared for mountain weather. This is one of the most beautiful places I know.
It should take you just over one hour to hike to the site at a fairly easy pace. There are lots of places to camp if you feel like staying overnight.

If you are feeling adventurous Tricouni Summit is here lat="50.013699" lon="-123.244789" ele 2113.986572 but be aware, that you will need a route map and be prepared for serious mountaineering. The summit is about 4 hours on from the lakes and camping at an easy pace.

You'll need to walk a long way or take a four wheel drive. My '95 Toyota 4Runner did just fine right to the trail head. See the waypoints below for your drive...

When you get to the cache waypoint, you'll see a circle of miniature trees on the left side of the trail. Walk 7 paces to the right perpendicular to the trail.

there has been a new trail built into this region this fall on the other side of the creek that is clear of mud. I recommend you use it rather than causing further damage to the fragile wet lands on the east side.

The new trail exists on the far side of the creek and is not difficult to follow. You'd really have to try in order to get lost because to do so would mean an impossible scramble out of the valley! Shortly after you leave the end of the road, the trail forks, with the left fork going down to the remnants of a bridge. Wade the river, or balance across the log. On the far side go away from the river and slightly LEFT to find the well marked trail that heads off left. Parallel the river through the forest and watch for the trail marker ribbons. You'll have to make your way around some downed trees and you'll come out in a boulder field. Make your way across the boulder field upstream until you come to some grassy slopes. Go up the grassy slopes to make your way above a dense band of trees that would otherwise block your way and traverse again through the open ground to another boulder field. cross this field and then up a couple of more slopes will get you to the lake. This route is entirely possible for young kids (I took my 4 year old and she walked it in two hours). It is entirely mud free.
