Geocache Description:

Mary Pratt first began as a left-handed pitcher for the Illinois, Rockford Peaches in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. Then in 1944 she went to the Wisconsin, Kenosha Comets until 1946 when she returned to the Rockford Peaches. Mary’s career record is 21-15, with her career highlight pitching a no-hitter against Minneapolis in 1944.

She was inducted as one of the first members of the women’s baseball wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY in 1988. Mary has maintained a lifelong commitment to the advancement of women in sports, teaching physical education for 48 years in public schools, working with a variety of organizations promoting women’s and girl’s athletics, and founding “Play Ball”, a sports camp for 10–16 year old girls. Ms. Pratt is a lifelong member of the Boston Board of Officials and a member of the Boston University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Thanks to women like Mary, girls softball continues to be a major sport in many colleges around the US. Many who have played on these fields have gone on to college on Softball Scholarships. This cache is for you, the women of softball!

This is a small altoids can. There is room for very small travel bugs and small coins. Plenty of parking close by. I am placing the travel bug, Ballpark Bound in the cache to start.
