So many of these homesteader’s cabins once dotted the prairie that it would have seemed foolish to suggest that only a few would survive.
A short time after I placed the cache, the cabin was burned to the ground. I do not know if the fire was accidental or intentional.
This particular log cabin was part of the Bates Creek division of the Swan Land and Cattle Company’s famous Two-Bar Ranch. The headquarters of this division is still in active use was just down the road. This structure was probably one of the original buildings of that vast operation.
I didn’t have my camera with me when I placed the cache. Since it later burned to the ground I truly regret not getting a picture to post of it at the time.
