Geocache Description:

This is a short wander from the car park on a level stone path along the royal military canal.
There are good picnic tables dotted around a lovely bench just below the car park looking along the canal.

The cache can be found from the footpath along side the canal and you do not need to climb fences or cross ditches to find it.
You could also take in our multi cache Monarch water which starts in the same car park.

The digging of the Royal Military Canal started October 30 1804 Royal At its peak there were 1,500 men working on the canal.
The canal was dug entirely by hand, using picks and shovels and the soil was carried away in wheelbarrows.
It cost £234,310 and construction was finished in April 1809.
Today the tree lined banks of the Royal Military Canal are an excellent place for quiet enjoyment, whether walking, fishing or simply watching the world go by.
This large stretch of fresh water provides a home for many birds such as Mute Swans, Grey Heron, Kingfishers, and Moorhens.
Also you can see Emperor Dragonfly’s, Marsh Frogs, Laughing frogs, Water Voles, Mink and around this area you can also see Glow Worms at night
