Geocache Description:

A reasonably quick drive-by Cache just off the A595 and near the old market town of Broughton-in-Furness. The cache is a plastic cylindrical canister containing a few swap items, log book, pencil and pencil sharpener. There is also enough room for small trackables.

The Cache is accessible from the lay-by but this can be quite busy due to the catering van, far better to take the turning into Broughton either just before or after the lay-by depending on your direction of travel, once round the sharp right hand bend as you start to go around the second bend there is off road parking to the right on the graveled area.

Continuing along the road you will reach Broughton-in-Furness which is on the southern boundary of the Lake District. It is located in the Furness region of Cumbria that was part of Lancashire before 1974. It lies near the River Duddon, just inland from the West Cumbrian coastal village of Foxfield. Broughton is mentioned in the Domesday Book as one of the townships forming the Manor of Hougun held by Earl Tostig. Dating from around the eleventh century, the original settlement grew to become the local market town for both fishing and agriculture. The central obelisk in the town square was constructed to mark the Jubilee of King George III in 1810.
