Geocache Description:

Congratulations to mcgeester for the FTF!!!

Here we have another spot in our city that you might have driven by numerous times and didn't even realize what was being done to help out the environment. So what is a wetland? It is an area that seasonally holds water. This urban wetland specifically helps to control floods caused by expansion during the furthering development of the city. It will act as a sponge to help absorb and filter stormwater (and we get a little bit of that here in Oregon, don't we?). This wetland is also important because it will help provide a healthy habitat and food for birds, butterflies, and small mammals. In fact, this particular wetland will hopefully one day serve as a home for a once thought to be extinct species of butterfly.

In order to log this particular earthcache you will need to visit the above listed coordinates. There you will find some informational signs that describe in greater detail what is happening at this wetland. Answer the following questions by emailing them to the cache owner and you can get your smiley! Please stay on the designated trail and do not disturb the environment.

1. Of the 285 acres that the Fairview Industrial Park occupies, how many acres of it are currently wetlands?

2. What is the basic purpose of this particular wetland?

3. What species of butterfly was once thought to be extinct and will hopefully one day consider this habitat a home?

4. What will it take for this to happen?

Pay Attention

*Please note that there is no parking right at the cache sight or on the street adjacent to the trail. There is a suggested parking spot in the waypoints that you might be able to use.
