in our disclaimer.
This is the first cache in a series that will educate cachers about
some of the businesses and locales in the Rockford Area that have
been lost to time.
This should be a PNG but bring your own scribbler, and please
return cache to its attachment point!
South of this location is the land parcel that was once the Sunset
Drive-in. The Sunset was originally named Lin's Air Theatre when it
opened in the 1950's. Eventually, the theater took a turn for the
worse in its later years during the 1980's. This is partly because
the theater had to subject itself to showing pornographic films to
attract customers. Those films were shown before laws were enacted
that prohibit such films from being shown publicly in this manner
now.
Efforts to re-open the drive-in in 2007 as a purely family venue
for the enjoyment of citizens of the Stateline area were shot down
by the efforts of people who live in the condominiums located near
the site.
Info about the Sunset
Screens: 1
Car Capacity: 1000
The screen is still intact and in place over the rise you see to
the South past the ticket booths that still can be seen.
Please DO NOT ENTER the fenced off
area to the South, obey the No Trespassing signs. Cache is located
on Public Right-of-Way. The road this is located on can be heavily
traveled at certain times of the day, so some efforts to be
stealthy are recommended!
Congrats to rperchen for FTF!!!
This cache is the first of two caches that I will be placing that
were spawned by locutos' Cache full of Cache(s) Cache.
