Welcome to "Insurgents in Sergeantsville," a series of caches with a trifold purpose: to introduce folks to our funky little village; to provide a bit of history along with the thrill of the hunt; and to teach the proper pronunciation of the town.*
This cache is near the center of town where the Farmer's Market is held every Saturday from May until October. If you time your visit to coincide with that event, check out the locally produced breads, cheeses, baked goods, poultry, and beef. According to historic documents and photos, the open area seems to have been a buffer between the residential areas to the east and the commercial area closer to town. There was a harness shop and a blacksmith shop as well as a barber shop, hotel, and general store, so this area might have served as a horse-and-buggy parking lot back in the day. These days, the locals refer to it as "the green."
The cache is placed on municipal land and not on the nearby private property, so don't venture into anyone's yard. As with the others in this series, stealth is imperitive. If you find this cache and the other 3 in the series you will collect the information needed to find the final GC2EXFY at: N40 27.06b W074 58.c0d
The other caches in the series are:
GC2EXBA Insurgents in Sergeantsville #1: Riding in Circles **archived 11/6/20, final coordinate clue above has been updated
GC2EXBE Insurgents in Sergeantsville #2: Downtown
GC2EXBK Insurgents in Sergeantsville #3: Hangin' at the Inn
#s 2, 3 and 4 are all within walking distance, but you will have to drive a short distance to the final. You could walk up to #1; just be careful as it's a fairly busy road with no sidewalks.
*It's SIR-gents-ville, there are no sergeants in Sergeanstville! It's a surname, sir!
