Under forntiden var Skräbeån en viktig samfärdsled, eftersom den band samman Östersjön med Ivösjön och ovanför liggande sjöars vattenområde. Den blev senare en viktig lokal kraftkälla. Skräbeån är artrik med diverse hotade och känsliga arter i bottenfaunan. Den är också landets sydligaste reproduktionslokal för havsvandrande sik. Även lax och öring vandrar upp i ån. Under vinterhalvåret fiskas sik i Skräbeån, vilket bedöms som ett av Sveriges finaste fiske.

[ENG] The River Skräbe
In ancient times, the River Skräbe was an important traffic route, because it tied together the Baltic with Lake Ivö and the waterways that lie above. It later became an important local power source. The River Skräbe is rich in species with several endangered and sensitive species of bottom fauna. Is also the country’s southernmost reproduction area for oceanic migratory whitefish. Salmon and salmon trout also find their way up into the river. During the winter, whitefish is fished in the River Skräbe which is regarded as one of Sweden’s finest fishing grounds.
