Sur un piton de basalte
provenant d'une cheminée volcanique refroidie se dresse le hameau
de Roquelaure avec son château féodal, maintes fois remanié au
cours des siècles, et sa chapelle, à chevet roman et nef gothique,
qui possède une mise au tombeau du XVIe siècle.
Depuis le belvédère situé
derrière la chapelle une exceptionnelle vue panoramique sur la
vallée du Lot et l'Aubrac s'offre à vous : on observe notamment le
château de Calmont d'Olt sur sa butte et le clocher flammée de
Saint Come d'Olt.
Le château de Roquelaure a été
construit en 1143 environ. Il aurait d'abord appartenu à la famille
de Calmont d'Olt, puis, vers le XIVème siècle, à la famille de
Roquelaure. A la fin du XVIème siècle, il devient propriété de la
famille de Bessuéjouls. A la Révolution, le château fut vendu par
l'État. Peu à peu abandonné, il servit de carrière de pierres et
fut même incendié. Il finit par s'écrouler dans les années 50.
Depuis 1966, il est restauré par son propriétaire actuel. On peut
aujourd'hui observer sur le côté de la batisse, deux tours rondes
coiffées d'un toit pointu et une troisième recouverte d'une
terrasse d'où l'on peut admirer une superbe vue.
La chapelle seigneuriale quant
à elle date du XIIème siècle. Elle est dédiée à Saint Laurent,
patron des bibliothécaires et des archivistes. Elle est classée
Monument Historique depuis 1981.
Ce hameau possédait
jusqu'en 1976 une école qui avait ouvert ses portes en 1890.
Aujourd'hui, une vingtaine de personnes vivent ici toute l'année :
merci de respecter la quiétude de ces lieux.
Aucune pierre n'est à déplacer pour
trouver la boîte. Merci d'être le plus discret possible et de bien
remettre la boîte en place au fond de son logement car selon la
saison et la météo, le belvédère peut être très
fréquenté.

On a peak of basalt resulting from a cooled volcanic chimney
raises itself the hamlet of Roquelaure with its feudal castle, many
times reshaped during the centuries, and its chapel, with a Romanic
head and a Gothic nave, which possesses an interment of the XVIth
century.
Since the belvedere situated behind the chapel you can see an
exceptional panoramic view on the valley of the Lot and Aubrac : we
observe in particular the castle of Calmont d'Olt on its mount and
the bell tower of Saint Come d' Olt.
The castle of Roquelaure was built in approximately 1143. It
would have been up at first to the family Of Calmont d' Olt, then,
at about XIVth century, to the family of Roquelaure. At the end of
the XVIth century, it becomes property of the
Family of Bessuéjouls. In the Revolution, the castle was sold by
The State. Little by little abandoned, it served as stony career
and was even burned. It collapses in the 50s. Since 1966, it's
restored by his current owner. We can today observe on the side of
the batisse, two round towers put on a sharp roof and the third
covered of one terrace where from we can admire a magnificent
view.
The seigneurial chapel as for her dates the XIIth century. It is
dedicated in Saint Lawrence, boss of the librarians and the
archivists and is classified as "Historic Monument" since
1981.
This hamlet possessed until 1976 a school which had opened its
doors in 1890. Today, about twenty persons live here all year long
: thank you for respecting the peace of this place.
