Lady Selborne
Short history of Lady
Selborne:
Lady Selborne was honoured to be named after
Lady Beatrix Maud Cecil whose husband had succeeded Lord Milner as
high commissioner for South Africa and governor of the Transvaal
and Orange River colonies. In 1905 Lady Selborne was established as
a freehold township for “coloured” people. It was
situated against the south slopes of the Magaliesberg and it was
purchased as portion 16 of the farm Zandfontein. The residents of
Lady Selborne were scattered in the early 60’s after
they’ve lost the fight to retain their long held status as
landowners.
