This cache has been archived.

status quo: As this cache has been out of action for too long and the cache owner has not responded or performed any maintenance, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to un-archive it.

Geocache Description:

Cache me if you can - follow the clues to find the final GZ (which is not at the listed coords).

Park at the Houghton Bay car park. WP1: Head 185m East (bearing of 124 deg true) along the Beach and WP1 is hidden less than 1m from this local mural:

Te mural: Is it depicting Houghton Bay, a giant wave or a crazy snail ? (comments welcome)

WP1 Contains the final coordiantes for the GZ.

NB: WP1 Container is hidden just above the high water mark (hence the warning about avoiding during large Waves & Storms) - it is hidden under a pile of round rocks - Please ensure that the container is wedged back in properly to avoid it being swept away by waves.

Houghton Bay is rugged beach with a stong rip and an excellent place to watch experienced surfers - it dangerous for swimmers so try Princess Bay for a picnic & swim. This part of the south coast is now part of the Taputeranga Marine Reserve.

Once you have copied the final GZ coordinates, you can either backtrack and go around the road to the next beach or 'rock-hop' around the coast to get to the GZ (again please heed the warnings). GZ is also almost at sea-level (~1.5m) so there is no need to scale these very steep cliffs.

WARNING: Strong Tides = excellent for experienced Surfers | Dangerous for swimmmers. AVOID This cache in storms or large waves...

FTF Prize: A camoed 'Eclipse' mint tin with a very strong Magnet - pls only take this if you are going to use it!
