This cache is on the shoulder of Eisenhower Mtn between Palm Desert and La Quinta. Red "+" on topo map is very accurate as to cache site.
I wanted to cache this on Eisenhower Mtn but there's no trail, so I had to choose another spot - and you'll only have to climb only 800', not 1,600'. This ammo box cache contains various "white elephant" new holiday gifts that others may really enjoy! One (wo)man's trash will hopefully be another's treasure. It's also a great hike from the Living Desert Preserve off Portola Ave. in P.D. and you should be able to get away from the crowds of tourists that visit this zoo/amusement park, er, preserve. You'll have to pay an entrance fee but it's a great place to learn about deserts worldwide and important conservation issues. Take the wilderness trail system east from the Reserve to the Picnic Ramada - it's a 5 mile loop hike - go up the canyon trail and down the ridge trail - but do plan on 3 hrs total. Not to be done in hot weather...no shade and no water. The cache itself is N/E of the picnic ramada about 100 ft. in a 20' high rockpile. Cache contains: Christmas T-shirt, cocktail napkins, greeting cards, 2 toy horses, 2 embroidered coin purses, nice coffee, Christmas cards, a butterfly in a case, and two survival items - water and matches. Also a travel bug - #203029.
