Geocache Description:

Cache is small camo container with log and trade items near the site where the gobbling Indian was shot dead from a cedar tree on the cliff above the river.

Fort Blackmore was located here in the Clinch River Valley where the Great Warriors Path connected the Cherokee and Shawnee that passed through Moccasin Gap, up Big Stoney creek to High Knob, through Pound Gap to Elk Horn creek to the Big Sandy and Ohio rivers.
In April, 1777 a War Party led by Benge attempeted to attack the Fort. One Indian climbed a cedar tree on the cliff near the fort and at day break started gobbling like a Turkey trying to lure a settler from the fort. Miltiaman Matthew Gray warned the others that it was a Indian and not a Turkey, then borrowed an extra rifle from David Cox and crossed the river below the Fort and flanked the Indian and shot him from the tree and fell him to the River.
